The American Black Bear is the biggest animal in the Deciduous Forest, it can weigh up to 500 pounds, and grow as tall as 3 feet on all four, or 7 feet when on hind legs. Black Bears are omnivorous and can eat anything, some of the things they eat are berries, fish, larvae, roots, and other succulent plants.
The White-Tailed Deer is the most common animal in the deciduous forest. It can grow as tall as 5 feet, and can jump up to 8 feet in the air. They weigh as much as 350 pounds. They are Herbivores so their diet consists of plants such as acorns, nut, berries, flowers, and other leafy plants.
The American Bald Eagle is our nations Bird of Prey. The Bald Eagle is an omnivore and eats small mammals, berries, nuts, and small vermin. It can soar at up to speeds of 120 mph and can dive at speeds of 145 mph.
The Coyote is one of the two dog family species that live in the deciduous forest. Although similar to it's brother the Gray Wolf, the coyote is smaller in stature and hunts primarily during the day. The Coyote is the second quickest animal in the deciduous forest running at up to speeds of 59 mph. They are carnivores so they only eat meat, their diet consists of Deer, Elk, Rabbit, Squirrels, and other small animals.
The Duckbill Platypus is a unique animal. The Platypus is a land mammal, but it hunts underwater. It can weigh up to 10 pounds and can swim at speeds of 20 mph. It is a carnivore but it only feeds on freshwater animals such as worms, insect larvae, freshwater shrimp, freshwater crayfish, and other freshwater animals.
The Pecan tree is commonly found in deciduous forests and can grow up to 180 feet tall. The Pecan Tree also grows Pecan Nuts. The leaves on a pecan tree are compound, simple serrated, and grow Pecan nuts. The Bark of the Pecan Tree is very torn up, flakey and has very shallow grooves.
The American Beech is the most common tree in the Deciduous Forest. It grows up 100ft. The Leaves on the American Beech are simple, serrated and the Bark is very smooth with patches of torn bark. These Trees are a very light-gray color, and the leaves start growing often towards the top of the tree.
